The Connected Device and Modular Design Could Change Your Product Development Process

Session Description

There are two emerging and seemingly unrelated trends that could change your hardware design process. The first being the fact that hardware design is becoming module or block based. Engineers are building new products based on functional block selection instead of individual components. With much of hardware design becoming commoditized, utilizing hardware modules as your product’s building blocks has numerous benefits. The second emerging trend is the product connection to the Internet of Things. The product can now report back diagnostics results, environmental conditions, etc. based on actual usage. New product design can now be based on field performance data versus assumptions. This session will present a product design strategy that combines IoT connectivity with a module based hardware design process. For the first time, the hardware design team can see past the manufacturing process and have quantifiable data on how their product is performing. A data set containing diagnostic results across thousands of products can identify a poorly designed module that is creating numerous field failures. Changing your hardware design process to combine IoT connectivity with modular based design can dramatically improve product quality and customer satisfaction.
