Subscription Models as a Foundation for Customer Success

Session Description

In the technology markets, the move toward software as a service (SaaS), a rise of connected devices and associated monetization models, and a trend where products serve as a conduit for digital services are driving the rise of subscription. Elsewhere, industries such as media and communication, retail, education, and healthcare are also experiencing a shift toward subscription. In the software industry, the subscription momentum will continue as more software vendors look to shift entirely to subscription approaches, and as subscription becomes the standard pricing methodology for new software offerings. For software customers, the benefits of subscription include the ability to take advantage of innovation by receiving all updates or upgrades as part of the subscription, simplified license management, increased purchasing efficiency, reduced capital spending, lower up-front costs, and more predictable long-term costs. At the same time, customers have valid concerns about the subscription model, and should understand the risks and how to mitigate them before entering into an agreement.
