Using simulation is a critical part of evaluating multiple designs and operating scenarios prior to building prototypes. The emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) enables a connected simulation-based model of a product or process, known as a simulation-based digital twin. Data derived from the sensors connected to the physical product or process can provide real-time boundary conditions for the digital twin. In addition, the digital twin provides data and insights in the absence of sensors. The digital twin can help determine the root cause of performance problems, evaluate various performance optimization and maintenance strategies, and improve bottom line by perfecting the next generation of products and processes. In this presentation, a real-life digital twin of a motored pump system will be demonstrated showing how to utilize twins for efficient and accurate root cause analysis and corrective actions.
